Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Humble Owner’s Guide

Most Linear keypad and intercom repairs in Humble run between $95 and $310 installed, and we stock the common Linear parts on our trucks so the fix usually happens the same visit. You’ll know it’s failing when the keypad works only in dry weather, the intercom buzzes but won’t release the gate, or a few buttons stop responding while the rest keep working. Linear built these units to take Texas heat, but the keypads and call stations sit outside year round, and Humble’s humidity plus direct sun eventually gets into the membrane and the wiring terminals.

What usually brings a Humble homeowner to this page is a gate that stopped opening from the street but still cycles fine from inside the property. That points to the entry device, not the motor or the board. If you’re holding a Linear keypad with cracked plastic or an intercom that sounds like it’s underwater, this is the page that tells you what it costs and what we actually do when we show up.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

We work on the Linear AK-11, AK-21, and AM-KP keypads, plus the AE-500, AE-1000, and AE-2000 telephone entry and intercom systems. The older Linear access control line – the AE-100 and AE-200 – still shows up on Humble properties built before 2010, and we keep the door-strike relays and keypad membranes for those on hand too. When we arrive, we check the model number on the inside faceplate or the side of the call station, then match the part to the exact revision. Linear changed keypad connectors twice over the years, so a membrane from 2014 won’t always pin out to a unit built in 2019, even if both say AK-11 on the front.

The real decision for Linear repairs is whether to use the OEM part or a quality aftermarket equivalent. For keypad membranes and rubber button mats, the aftermarket versions hold up just as well in Humble’s climate and cost about 30 percent less. For the intercom boards and the radio receivers, we stick with Linear OEM. The aftermarket receiver boards don’t always handshake cleanly with older Linear gate operators, and diagnosing that mismatch after the fact costs more than the part savings ever justified. One more thing: Linear intercoms use a specific door-strike voltage. If someone in the past swapped in a universal strike, the current draw can slowly cook the intercom’s relay. We check that on every intercom repair in Humble.

Signs Your Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Buttons work intermittently, worse after rain. The membrane seal has cracked or lifted, and moisture is bridging the contacts. In Humble’s wet season, this is the most common Linear keypad failure we see. The fix is the membrane and a new gasket, not a whole keypad.
  • Visitor presses the call button, you hear buzzing, but the gate won’t open. The door-strike relay on the intercom has likely burned or the strike itself is pulling too much current. We test the strike separately so we don’t blame the board for a failing strike.
  • Some digits work, others don’t. A few dead traces on the keypad’s flexible circuit. The board inside is fine, and replacing the keypad face restores everything. You don’t need a new gate operator.
  • The keypad beeps when you press, but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending a code, but the receiver or the operator’s learned-code memory has dropped it. We re-learn the code and watch the operator’s status light to confirm the handshake.
  • Intercom audio is faint, humming, or cuts out mid-sentence. A corroded speaker or a failing audio transformer inside the call station. Humidity in Humble gets into the speaker cone faster than most people expect, usually within six to eight years outdoors.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what Linear keypad and intercom repair costs in Humble, installed with parts included:

Repair Installed Price Range When It Makes Sense
Keypad membrane or button mat replacement $95-$165 Buttons failing intermittently, cracked faceplate
Full keypad replacement (Linear OEM or aftermarket) $145-$245 Older unit, multiple failures, housing cracked through
Intercom speaker and microphone replacement $110-$190 Audio works but sounds weak, distorted, or cuts out
Door-strike relay or board repair on intercom $180-$310 Call button works, audio works, gate still won’t release
Receiver board replacement (Linear OEM) $210-$350 Keypad sends code, operator doesn’t respond, remote still works

The range depends on which Linear revision you have and whether we’re repairing the existing unit or swapping in a new one. Flat price is written and handed over before we start, per Haven Standard Clause 1. Parts and labor are itemized separately, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. Every repair is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, no argument, no fee, within the year.

These units run on low voltage, so the electrical hazard is minimal compared to working on the gate operator itself. The risk with DIY is buying the wrong revision part online, and that happens more often than people expect with Linear. The keypad you order might not match the connector on your existing wiring. If you want to try something before calling, the one safe check is visual: pull the keypad’s weather cover and look for cracked plastic, lifted membrane edges, or water staining inside. You don’t need a meter for that. What you shouldn’t do is open the gate operator panel and start re-wiring the low-voltage inputs based on a YouTube video. That’s where we see bad splices and mismatched transformers on Humble properties.

If you’d rather have us look at it, we’ll name what we found, name what it costs, and you’ll have a written price before anyone touches a screwdriver. Call (346) 423-6136 and a live person answers, any hour.
